Abstract:

Introduction: Prostatic adenocarcinoma is one the most common malignances and the second cause of death in males due to cancer. Prostate Specific Antigen (PZSA) serum level is the first marker to screen such patients. We aimed in this study, to assess the intensity of prostatic adenocarcinoma tissue staining with PSA staining method. Methods: In this corss-sectional study, prostatic adenocarcinoma patients referred to pathology department of Shahid Mohammadi hospital, Bandar Abbas, during 2009-2010, were investigated. The samples were first stained with H&E staining. If adenocarcinoma was confirmed then PSA staining with IHC method was carried put. Normal prostate tissue and negative control with non granular tissue and non-grander tissue were considered as positive and negative controls, respectively. Collected data was analyzed with SPSS 16 , using descriptive methods and Chi-square test. Results: Mean age of the patients was 73.63±10.70, varying from 54 to 91 years. Grade of the tumors varied from 2 to 10, where the most frequent grade was 7. Results showed that as the degree of PSA staining decreased, serum PSA level increased (P=0.017). Conclusion: Results demonstrated that the intensity of PSA staining with IHC has a reverse correlation with serum PSA level, whereas higher gleasons grading associated with increased PSA serum levels.

Age Specific Reference Levels of Serum Prostate-Specific Antigen, Prostate Volume and Prostate Specific Antigen Density in Healthy Iranian Men

Background: It is relevant to highlight that there is not a precise and perfect report on either 95 percentile value (upper limit of normal range) or on appropriate reference intervals for serum PSA in Iranian population. Objective: To determine age-specific reference ranges for serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentration and PSA density (PSAD) and prostate volumes in a population of he...

Prostate Specific Antigen Level in Exposure to Sulfur Mustard

Background: Oxidants and inflammation agents are predisposing factors for the development of prostate cancer. As a chemical warfare, sulfur mustard (SM) can cause cancer through various pathways mainly increased production of oxidants and inflammation. Due to high incidence of cancer in SM victims, concentration of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in SM victims was evaluated and compared with th...

Co-expression and impact of prostate specific membrane antigen and prostate specific antigen in prostatic pathologies

BACKGROUND The present study was undertaken to relate the co-expression of prostate-associated antigens, PSMA and PSA, with the degree of vascularization in normal and pathologic (hyperplasia and cancer) prostate tissues to elucidate their possible role in tumor progression. METHODS The study was carried out in 6 normal, 44 benign prostatic hyperplastic and 39 cancerous human prostates. Immun...

Preparation of prostate specific antigen standards for immunoradiometric assay

Background: Immunoradiometric assay is one of the most common and precise methods for determination of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in clinical laboratories. Usual use of human serum in routine assays has many disadvantages such as easy contamination and precipitation, instability and unavailability. Thus in order to avoid these problems the artificial matrix was used which acts sim...
